48/5 Competition
- Hosted by the East Lansing Film Festival, the participants are given a genre, line of dialogue, prop, & location to shoot a 5 minute short film in 48 hours. Scripting, casting, filming and editing must be completed no later than 48 hours from inception.
- Homegrown Entertainment has competed in three of these competitions with titles such as O positive, Movie History, and 3rd place winner Speed Datin’.
- Great for practicing meeting deadlines.
8 shot Project
- An MSU Film Club favorite, participants must make a short film in 8 cuts or less telling an entire story while introducing characters, their motives, the actions, and the conclusion.
- Homegrown Entertainment completed Tuesday Night Hustler, a story about six friends trying to get to a poker game.
- Excellent for getting your scenes short and to the point, without adding useless cuts and dialogue.
Silent Shorts
- Participants must create a short film without using dialogue.
- A good way to practice your artistic side and camera work.
General Dialogue
- A static general conversation between two characters, the script does not change and participants are required to see how many different genres they can mold the dialogue into.
- A great way to build your script writing, and dialogue composition.
